Burwell Craftsmen
Residential Engineering
Burwell Craftsmen is a small family practice that allows its Engineer, Jeremiah Parunak, P.E. to develop his interests alongside the development of his family! This is an old fashioned family business.
We are small, but responsive and insist on quality and satisfaction.

As for the name... well here is the story!
What is in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet!

Why Burwell, well its neat. It's also the name of the celebrated Knoxville Businessman's Wife, Mary Burwell, who developed the little neighborhood at the turn of the 19th century where we got our start. The neighborhood boasts homes that are modest by Victorian Era standards yet memorialize the upward mobility of working folk in that time and place. The noble work ethic characteristic of America is enshrined in these homes targeted for Southern Railway workers. Oakwood was a development for the working family to own a piece of The American Dream.
The street where we bought our first home was named in honor of Burwell. The homes were 1,200 - 1,400 sq. ft. with 10' - 12' tall ceilings for moderating the Summer's heat. Broad front porches facilitate community as folks stroll the sidewalks and commune with their neighbors. It was a fine place to live as we poured our time and talents into the home. A century after serving its first owners, The Little House continued to give our family comfort, security, society and equity.
Why Craftsmen, would you want anything else working in your home? This piece is how we seek to be unique in the service market. In today's residential repair and renovation service sector the home owner will typically experience three phases to the project:
1. 'Sales' experience,
2. 'Install' experience and
3. 'Post Service' experience.
The bookends are typically a salesperson in a polo shirt that was on a crew once upon a time, or maybe never. The book in the middle is what matters most! We focus on your interest and bring Associate Craftsmen builders that share our values to your project. We believe the 'installer' is more than a mechanic, and should be capable of bookending his own work as a Craftsman. We attract and are attracted to this kind of professional in the service market. A Craftsman celebrates education, quality and above all safety.
As for our Engineering services, we hone our craft too. We take our time! Safety and Quality may not be rushed! Schedules drive cost and quality; we aim to control these elements more than any other. All construction projects (and many other sectors of business) may be evaluated with the Three E's: Efficiency, Efficacy & Economy. Here, the first refers to speed or schedule. The next refers to quality and the last cost. The realistic owner may Choose Two of these competing elements. We take the time required to learn the project (conditions and owner's intent), and the owner learn from us; basically, we give priority time to knowledge, understanding and creativity.
