SAGGING, SQUEAKY & BOUNCY FLOORS
Things change.
Home building standards, intended use and basic loads all change decade by decade.
One thing in residential floor design that does not change is the pursuit of sturdy floors. The design is, has been and always will be based on deflection or bounce. Older standards allowed smaller floor joists to span longer distances than do modern standards; thus giving them more bounce than modern homes.
Another reason for bounce is that wood is an unstable material. It is susceptible to changes in moisture, insects and 'creep'. Creep is the deformation of a structural member over time due to normal loading effects of elongation of the wood fibers.
So what can you do? There are solutions; schedule an inspection appointment and we can begin securing your home for many years to come.
